Youth Group

For young men and women of high school age.
St. Catherine of Siena's EPIC youth group will empower young men and women to live as disciples of Christ through service to others, fellowship in the Lord's name, and Christian Education. Our programs are fun, educational, and spiritual.
EPIC supports OLHC, St David and St Catherine parishes. EPIC is open to any 8th - 12th Grade Teen even those outside these parishes.
We know God has great plans for our youth group and we want your teens to be a part of it.
This ministry has made tremendous impact on teens' lives. I hope your teens will have the same experiences.

New Director of Youth Ministry
We are excited to announce the hiring of Duncan Fischley as the new Director of E.P.I.C. St. Catherine’s joined E.P.I.C., a regional youth ministry that includes St. David’s Parish in Willow Grove and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Abington, in December. E.P.I.C. is one youth group in three parishes.
Duncan Fischley is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Religious Studies and Secondary Education at the University of Dayton. While studying, his spiritually was formed by the Marianist tradition of community, inclusivity, mission, service, and Mary’s fiat. After graduating he spent two years volunteering for the Catholic Student Center, a Newman Community at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He found his calling of ministry through his work with young adults and students. After finishing out his time there, he accepted a Graduate Internship at Villanova University for Theology, Pastoral Ministry, and Campus Ministry. It is at Villanova he met his future spouse, Lacie Michaelson. He went on to work at Felician University as their Director of Campus Ministry before being called to work as the Youth Minister for E.P.I.C Ministry.
From Duncan...I enjoy the simple things in life, hiking, camping, board games, Harry Potter, college basketball (Go Dayton Flyers), the Cleveland Indians and Browns, being with friends, and finding God in all things. If you are ever looking for a bad joke, a person to talk to, a conversation on geek culture, to complain about your sports team, or just someone who will not judge you and only love you; please reach out to me any time. I am here for you! Duncan has an office here at St. Catherine’s and can be reached at extension 114 or at E.P.I.C.inform@gmail.com.

Steubenville Catholic Youth Conference 2019
The youth group JAM now E.P.I.C. went on our second trip to the Steubenville Catholic Youth conference at Franciscan University campus in Ohio. We had 13 high school parishioners attend this inspirational and amazing weekend (this includes 4 new members). The weekend allowed students to be surrounded by thousands of other students all searching for meaning in their busy, hectic lives. The peace that they experience can be life changing, it shakes their faith, makes them think, and allows them to share their love and passion for Jesus so openly, and makes me hopeful for the future of our parish. Attending mass with these students, being welcomed daily by the student volunteers, music ministry team, priests, sisters, speakers, and deacons who attend from all over the country, who give of their time to celebrate mass, hear confessions all weekend and evangelize in a safe environment is very powerful to witness.
I appreciate the ongoing support of our pastor Father Rymdeika, our JAM team; Jocelyn and Erik Aaron, Angela Gallichio. They have supported these students as we continue to teach; mentor, inspire, and expose them to their faith through Jesus' teachings, and watch them develop a deeper connection with Jesus, and learn a greater responsibility and purpose as a member of our SCS family. Thank you for your continued prayers for our students of our parish, they are our future, and they need our prayers to stay the course, even when they feel great despair, or they fall short, Jesus loves them and sees their pain. My prayer is that our parish continues to embrace them when they become living witnesses of their faith. We have students now lectoring, serving as extraordinary ministers, cantering, singing in the choir, volunteering at our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, ushering, and some soon to become adorers with Jesus in St. Catherine of Siena Adoration Chapel. Please continue to pray for us and welcome and encourage their efforts to become more visible and vibrant members of our parish, they are ready and they want to serve. Just last week before leaving for our trip to Steubenville, our JAM youth stepped into action when a call came in that we had little to no meals for our parish homebound. Students prepared meals to fill our freezer in our parish office that feeds our parish homebound all year round. Please encourage your high school student to give JAM a try. It will only lead to great friendships, calls to service, and becoming living examples of Jesus through their deeds and actions. |
